Your editor has not given you a specific topic for each of these genres. What you are expected to do is to go out into your community and find an event which will fall into one of these genres. Once you have decided on your chosen story, complete the following questions. JRNS5111 Q.2.1 Before you can begin to write your story, you need to research and compile all your content which will form the basis of your hard news story. Your editor has given you the following guidelines: ? Once you have chosen your genre and subsequently your story which you will be writing for the community newspaper, you need to conduct research that will form the basis of your hard news story. ? At the start of your question, state which genre you have chosen for this POE question and the subsequent questions which follow on from this question. JRNS5111 ? For this question you need to supply all the information that you have researched to be able to write this hard news story. ? You must supply all the research which you have conducted in full, and you need to highlight the parts of the sources of information which you feel will add value to your hard news story. ? Do not simply provide the links to sources of information as your lecturer will not be able to assess which aspects of each source you feel needs to be included in your hard news story. ? Ensure your research is referenced correctly. JRNS5111 Q.2.2 Once your research has been completed, it is time to add the personal element tob your hard news story by conducting an interview which will enable you to use direct quotes in your writing. You need to conduct one (1) interview with someone who will have some insight or knowledge of your chosen topic. Ensure you follow the guidelines below: JRNS5111 ? Write a list of eight (8) to ten (10) questions which you will ask your interviewee. ? Have a balance of open and close-ended questions. ? Ensure your questions relate directly to your topics and will give you sufficient information that you are able to quote. ? You need to document your interview while conducting the interview. You may either write as the interview happens, or you can record your interview and then type up the answers later. If you are recording your interview, it is recommended that you write as you record in case anything goes wrong with your recording device/cell phone. ?
