Katie Andrews is a 25-year-old single lady living alone and works as a Legal Assistant in a busy Law firm. Katie is the 3rd child in a family of 4 children. The family is very close and her parents who live close by are very supportive of Katie. She has a history of major depressive disorder managed by her General Practitioner on 50mg Amitriptyline daily.
Over the last four weeks, Katie has taken several days off work. She stated she struggles to get out of bed most mornings. She has not been attending her weekly basketball game which she used to enjoy. She has also been having difficulty sleeping and has experienced weight gain. When her mum visited her, Katie was feeling quite worthless, she started her life does not have real meaning anymore. She also expressed a belief that certain government agencies have planted a device in her car, house and office that has been monitoring her activities. She expressed ongoing thoughts of ending her life and she had specific plans on how to do this. Her mother contacted psychiatric triage and following assessment by the crisis team, she was admitted to the acute In-patient unit. She was assessed by the treating psychiatrist who gave a provisional diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder with psychotic features.

Task:

Discuss evidence-based mental health nursing care/management for Katie that aligns with a recovery-oriented/focused care while she receives treatment on the in-patient unit. Your essay should include (but not limited to) relevant mental health nursing assessments, psychopathology of the disorder, evidence-based guidelines for the treatment of the disorder (including pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment interventions) and also include the consumer perspective.
