Katie recently bought her dream house in Kensington, after she successfully sold her debut novel on a school for young witches to Hollywood for £30m. Soon after she moved in her dream turned into a nightmare.  Her neighbour, an oil magnate, decided to build a massive basement conversion double the size of his house, in order to install an Olympic size swimming pool, a private cinema and staff quarters. He only visits the house sporadically, but when he does, he hosts parties that last for days on end, with continuous noise, drunken revellers throwing cigarette butts and lager cans over the fence into Katie’s back garden, etc.  During the week, the noise of the building work makes it impossible to hear the TV in Katie’s house and makes it unbearable to sit in the garden. Other people in the neighbourhood have also complained about the noise from the construction and from the constant partying. 

Katie rents her spare room out to Ashley. Ashley works shifts and often sleeps during the early hours of the morning and during the day. The noise of the parties and the building work disturb Ashley’s sleep.
