Kaye Monroe is a 28 year old analyst at a major city hedge fund. Kaye recently completed her law degree on a part time basis. It was very challenging to study part time and successfully complete all her assessments while working full time. Long days. long nights, and an unspoken 'work hard, play hard' culture led to her developing a cocaine habit. This was not unusual among her colleagues. Two years ago, she was found with a trafficable quantity of cocaine (just over 3g). She had purchased the cocaine and planned to use it and supply to her friends for enjoyment at a music festival. She was arrested and charged by the police after purchasing the cocaine. 
Kaye pleaded guilty to possession and supply charges. She was convicted and has served a three months jail sentence and three months bond. Her criminal record shows no other offences. 
Kaye was able to return to her position as an analyst with the hedge fund but decided that she did want to practise law and applied for admission to practise as a solicitor. The NSW Legal Profession Admission Board (LPAB) refused to issue a compliance certificate. As her application was 'refused outright' she has decided to appeal against the LPAB's decision in the Supreme Court under s 26 Legal Profession Uniform Law (NSW). She instructs you to represent her in seeking admission.
