Key Issues in English as an International Language Assignment

Assignment Task

This assessment task requires you to identify three significant issues to do with English as an International Language. You will need to explain why they are important for you to consider when selecting and developing TESOL pedagogy in a digitised and globalised environment. These issues can be taken from the Study Guide and/or your own experience relating to English as an International Language. To complete the task, you should

• consider the historical and current roles of English in a particular context;
• discuss the social, political, and economic factors that relate to the use and teaching of English in this situation, as well as the implications for practice;
• include examples of the various contexts in which English is taught and used, and the effects it has upon the society and culture of the context; and
• where possible, draw upon your own work and life experiences to illustrate the identified issues.

Your presentation should comprise the following components:

• an overview of the chosen issues
• a rationale as to their significance
• key evidence including studies, events, cases, or examples
• implications for TESOL pedagogy, curriculum, or practice
• relevance to the other two issues
