IT Assessment Answer
TASK:
This project is an exercise which requires analysis of user requirements, specification, design (including task analysis and screen design) and implementation for an interactive information system of your choice. Students will work individually to design and implement an information engineering system. A clear project plan is essential. It should be presented in a structured report format. The steps of this individual project are given below:
1) Select a problem domain that could be served by a computerized information system, e.g., a payroll system, a university admissions system, a theatre booking system, a loan application system, library automation, etc. This topic must be confirmed with your lecturer. The lecturer will want to know that you have the technical skills, access to test data and IT equipment to implement the prototype in the time allowed.
2) Study the problem domain of your chosen application.
3) Prepare requirements analysis and specification documents.
4) During the information gathering, you are expected to gather user requirements and necessary legal, ethical and social criteria and practices that constitute recognized and defendable good practice in an industrial or business setting.
5) Consider and propose a design methodology for your stated requirements and state your reasons for your
suggestions. Include an abstract description of your proposed design. Prepare an overall design study based on your selected design methodology and critically discuss the use of any audio-visual or multimedia communication metaphors as a part of your design. In particular, consider:
• The advantages that your design gains from the methodology you have chosen.
• The alternative design methodologies you could have possibly used to develop your system and how your design would have changed.
• Task analysis, input and output considerations.
• Screen designs and interaction models.
• Evaluate and critically assess the overall design.
• Prepare a detailed design for your system by taking into consideration class and individual feedback and state whether a change of approach is required.
• State an evaluation plan (e.g., system or usability testing) and the type of your expected results. Include a short report of the lessons you learned in preparing this project and propose solutions to the problems you encountered.
• Critically assess your project and comment on the advantages gained from your design methodology.
