Assignment Task:

Details
The assessment for this module is to produce a critically reflection on a contemporary issue in event management/event studies of your own choosing. To do that you will need to produce an academic poster, with abstract, that sets out the issue and provides an engaging overview of the themes in current academic researchand current debate that can be associated with your chosen topic.

Academic Poster
Students will produce an academic poster, with abstract, on the academic themes and current debate associated with their chosen ‘contemporary issue in responsible event management’; the poster will be an engaging review of key themes in the academic literature associated with their topic and the current debate associated with it. The poster must incorporate graphic elements and text, but should not be text heavy, and be anchored in the key academic discussions, drawn from a variety of disciplines and fields, relevant to their chosen topic. NB: There is no word count for this part of the assessment. Whilst not essential, we encourage international students to choose a topic of direct relevance to their home community/communities.

The poster should illustrate the key themes, concepts, findings and research approaches the identified sources have used. It should also address how their chosen topic is currently being debated in a wider social context. Students are encouraged to structure their poster in a format they consider most appropriate to suit their line of thought, as they critically review the sources they have identified, in a visually engaging way. The poster should be one item (i.e. not a series of smaller posters), and the dimensions of the poster must be A2. The poster should be visually engaging, and the abstract should be clear and easy to follow. All academic sources and secondary data used on the poster should be fully referenced using the Harvard style approved by the university (see Quote/Unquote, the presentation in the workshop of Week 3, and the opportunities to ask questions about referencing in all workshops). Following revisions made to the module based on the university’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic; student, and external examiner feedback, this part of the assessment has changed a little since last year. However, some example posters from previous years, and examples from the research posters produced by the final year undergraduate in 2019/20, will be presented via MyBeckett and discussed in workshops and seminars preceding submission. Whilst these will differ from the assessment requirements for this year, they will provide helpful insight into the form the module’s assessment takes.

There is no definitive word count for any part of the poster. As an indicative guide, however, we would suggest the abstract should be no more than 350 words and appear in the top left of your poster(after the title, your name and student ID number). The poster font should be sans-serif, 1.5 or double spaced and no less than 14 points in size. The abstract should work as a short summary of your poster and be fully Harvard referenced, using the style presented in Quote/Unquote. References for the abstract and the poster should either appear at the bottom or bottom right corner of the poster. A full briefing for the assessment will be provided in the on-site workshop in Week 1, and as a recording in the online material available from Week 2 onwards.
