All students must submit an essay, which should be no longer than 5,000 words excluding references (with 10% leeway), via Turnitin on Moodle by 9am on Monday 3rd August 2020. This essay constitutes 50% of your final grade.
You may choose either AGLC 4th edition referencing or Harvard style in-text referencing (or equivalent) but your referencing style must be consistent. Your essay should be written in 12-point font, with line spacing of 1.5. 
 

As discussed there are two options for the long essay – you must choose a or b below.  
a) Students who submitted a Concept Paper for their major essay (for their short essay assessment) are to complete their essay as proposed, taking into consideration any feedback on their Concept Paper (ensure you check for comments throughout your short essay). As per previous instructions, your major essay should explore a challenge, assumption, concern or gap in crime prevention policy and provide an argument, critique or recommended policy response informed by relevant theory and/or research to improve crime prevention outcomes. Ensure your essay includes sub-headings to reflect the structure outlined in your Concept Paper. 

b) Students who did not submit a Concept Paper for their essay must develop an evidence-based integrated strategy designed to reduce and prevent a priority crime concern in a specific location, community or setting. The aim of this essay is for you to apply learnings from throughout the course to a specific crime problem in a real-world setting. Your answer should:
 Focus on a particular offence type (e,g. retail theft, common assault, sexual assault) or a specific crime concern (identity theft, drug offences, juvenile offending) in a specific location (e.g. a specific city or suburb) or community (a residential community or a within a specific cultural group in the community) or setting (in an entertainment precinct, within a school or institution or online)
 Undertake research to inform a problem analysis of your selected crime concern in that setting, exploring available data and other evidence, such as factors associated with the offence, key locations of concern, victim and offender profile, spatio-temporal factors
