This assessment has two parts (Parts A and B), and offers the opportunity for description, analysis and reflection on:
• Leadership;
• Clinical practice;
• Patient care in a professional health care context; and
• Strategies that may assist practice as a newly graduated registered nurse.
Part A:
Leadership approach (2,000 words equivalent) During your nursing studies and
clinical placements, you have had the opportunity to observe and experience a range
of approaches to leadership in use. These experiences may have occurred in a
range of different health contexts. In this part of the assessment, choose and reflect
on ONE leadership approach to discuss and evaluate its potential impact on
aspects of practice of a newly graduated Registered Nurse:
•communication
• documentation
• emerging leadership opportunities
• team work
• delegation
• scope of practice.
Part A directions:
Aspects to be covered in part A of the assessment are outlined:
• An introduction to identify what will be covered in this part of your assessment
Describe ONE leadership approach that a newly graduated Registered Nurse could employ, and describe its key characteristics/features with reference to the
literature use 3 references.
• Reflection on how the leadership approach may impact upon:.and 5 high quality references.
- nurses’ communication, documentation, professional relationships, team work, scope of practice, delegation of care or management;
- the practice of quality health care;
- opportunities for newly graduated nurses to develop leadership skills.

PART A of the assessment, summarising the key findings of the leadership approach
Please write in third person for this part of the assessment and cite relevant references where appropriate.
PART A – Nursing Leadership
• Your introduction should consist of the following three sections:
1. Introduce the topic to the reader
2. Provide contextual background information which are validated by relevant reference citations
3. Inform the reader of the intent or objectives of your essay, which includes informing the reader which leadership style you have chosen
• Describing your leadership style in by:
o Defining your leadership style (i.e., transformation leadership)
o Describing its key features and characteristics
Part B:
Critical reflection In this part of the assessment please build upon the knowledge you have gained from Assessment 1. Choose ONE of the concepts you wrote about in Assessment 1 provide a critical reflection using Gibbs Reflective Cycle (1988) on its potential influence on your future practice as a newly graduated Registered Nurse.
Part B directions:
Aspects that need to be covered in part B of the assessment are outlined:
• A brief introduction to PART B to identify what will be covered in this part of your assessment
• Choose ONE of the concepts; , belongingness, emotional intelligence, resilience or communication and explain how it could assist newly graduated RN. Using Gibbs Reflective cycle consider how knowledge of this concept has influenced your thoughts about your pending practice as a newly graduated Registered Nurse. Has
that knowledge provided any strategies that you may use? Explore them here
Part B – Reflective essay
• Choose one concept
o Choose a concept that is most well-linked and an important feature of your leadership style. For example, Transformation Leadership AND Emotional Intelligence OR communication
o Using reflection (refer to the Gibbs Required Reading found under Assignment 2 Help) provide an example from clinical placement that you have observed that has
influenced your thoughts on how you will develop this skill or attribute as a newly graduate RN. This example maybe a situation you observed or where you
demonstrated nursing leadership
Hint:
Remember part B must be connected to Part A and not treated as a separate assignment from each other. For example, if you have chosen transformational
leadership then this must be reflected in your strategies in your transition to an RN.
• What type of strategies should you consider? Strategies that you could consider but are not limited to are: continuing professional development, mentoring, giving and receiving feedback, reflective journaling
