Introduction

In this assessment, I will be answering four questions of which two are based on examining the leadership style and effectiveness of a leader, and the other two are based on a comparison of leadership approaches from various cultures. The two leaders which I have chosen for my assessment are, one is M?ori Queen (Te Atairangikaahu) and the other is the current or third female Prime Minister (Jacinda Ardern) of New Zealand. In this assessment, I will be discussing the leadership style, theories, and effectiveness of the chosen leaders.

Section1- Leadership Styles and Effectiveness of the leaders

Question1- Examine the leadership styles of each of your leaders using the most relevant leadership theories that apply to them as discussed in the course textbook and other relevant resources. Provide examples.

Te Atairangikaahu, Te Arikinui, was the first woman to head the Kingitanga (M?ori king movement). She was the longest-reigning M?ori monarch, with a reign of over 40 years(Herald, 2018). Te Atairangikaahu rose to national prominence as a symbol of M?ori identity and mana during a period when M?ori was expressing their language, culture, and rights under the Treaty of Waitangi(Belgrave, 2018). She was also known as 'The Lady' among Waikato residents and was given the M?ori name Te Arikinui.

Because she is known to us as a gentle and unassuming woman who, over 40 years as Te Arikinui, made her presence felt in endless ways, Dame Te Ata was a behavioral and situational leadership(Parliament, 2006). Throughout that time, she has been a source of consistency, a force for peace, and a voice of tolerance. Dame Te Ata was not only a link to the past and the beginnings of Kingitanga, but she was also a key figure in forging a new future for Maoridom(Parliament, 2006). Dame Te Ata contributed her mana and support to M?ori enterprises all around the country. She was a supporter of the M?ori Women's Welfare League, which provided her with invaluable support throughout New Zealand. Similarly, from the foundation of kohanga reo and Kura Kaupapa to M?ori television, Dame Te Ata was a passionate supporter of the restoration of te Reo M?ori and all activities related to it.

Jacinda Kate Laurell Ardern is New Zealand's current and third female prime minister, having taken office as the country's 40th prime minister and leader of the Labour Party in 2017. She was initially elected to the House of Representatives as a list MP in 2008 and has served as the Mount Albert Member of Parliament (MP) since March 2017. The characteristics that have helped Jacinda Ardern become New Zealand's most popular prime minister in a century were on show when she handled a live television interview while dealing with an earthquake(Unger, 2021). As the 5.9-magnitude quake hit New Zealand's parliament house in Wellington for 15 seconds, she exclaimed brightly, "We're alright." “There are no flashing lights on me.” Some have named Ardern the world's most effective national leader because of her calm under pressure, self-discipline, and the boldness of her government's reaction to the COVID-19 outbreak(Unger, 2021). Her sincerity, though, is the key to her popularity and efficacy. Ardern is a natural and empathic

communicator who doesn't preach to people but instead communicates that she's "standing with them," according to Helen Clark, New Zealand's prime minister from 1999 to 2008: Jacinda Ardern's unparalleled popularity echoes these results. We automatically know that we favor authentic leadership when we see it(Unger, 2021).

Quetsion2- Discuss how each of their leadership styles, supported by the relevant leadership theories, makes them effective leaders. Provide examples.

Te Atairangi's leadership style, which is highly supportive and low directive, or a more cooperative leadership style. empowers her people via moral support and empathy, making her a successful leader. Transformational leadership occurs when a leader considers a method of developing followers to a point where they are making decisions and learning to be more self-sufficient and confident to achieve the desired outcomes. When she was younger, another example of her sort of leadership that makes her effective is when she oversaw a group of people. Turangawaewae Marae was visited by Queen Elizabeth II(Glann, 2021). To show where New Zealand's M?ori Monarch lived. The British Queen was on a tight schedule, and the government had only given her and the duke three minutes to see the marae. Queen Elizabeth and the Duke were invited to tea by the young Princess, who was yet to become queen(Glann, 2021). This marked the beginning of the M?ori people's connection with the Crown. Following this and many additional trips, the Kingitanga movement led by the M?ori Queen was able to gain land settlements with the Crown under the Treaty of Waitangi, as well as a formal apology from the crown. During a visit to New Zealand in 1995, Queen Elizabeth signed the act in person. The act of a leader taking the initiative to help their people achieve their objectives is an indication of an influencing leader. This form of leadership possesses attributes such as intuition, vision, persuasion, and sincerity. While in the public eye, Te Atairangikaahu exhibited these attributes.
