Reflective Writing Assignment

Reflective Journal

The reflections students submit should focus on their learning experience throughout the semester. Reflections can be prompted by anything that triggers your imagination or captures your attention during your study of the unit, including discussions, readings or any associations you can make with them. This includes the evaluation of theories in practice, the link between issues discussed in tutorials, your previous knowledge, or some related element of your current or future professional management practice.

With connections to the past, the present and the future, each reflection should be guided by the following:
  • What aspects of the unit were of most interest to you? What was the tutorial interaction and discussion like
  • Write your explanation or analysis of the specific situation that triggered your attention considering the context of your management practice or your learning. This connects what happened in past experience with your current thoughts about it. Some useful questions to consider might ask how theory discussed matched practice. For example you can write about your views on why did that situation happen? What does it mean in the context of your acquired knowledge? What were the conditions that triggered the specific discussion?

This is your re-thinking, a learning process for your future professional practice from the evaluation of the past experience during your learning process. For example, how could what happen in class contribute to your future professional practice? How might your perspective have changed?  How can you use this new knowledge or competence in your future professional practice? What should you do differently? What might need to change? How would you change it? In what ways can you apply the things you have learned? How would you manage the situation in the future?

The entries in your reflective journal will relate to your own experiences, thoughts, feelings, impressions, intuitions, expectations and concerns, therefore, the entries should be written in the first person, using words such as “I”, “me” and “my”
