Assume that you are completing this task in order to research the technology’s characteristics, examine the issues that it is designedto address, and develop a report for potential users. The analysis should becomposed into a 3-5 page research brief.

The purpose of this assignment is to provide students with practice in evaluatingan IT system or practice with which s/he is unfamiliar and to communicate theresearch findings to potential users. You have freedom to select any IT systemor application that meets the criteria discussed below. Students who are unsureas to whether a technology, application, or practice is appropriate should consult with the instructor.

Technology Criteria

The IT system, application, or practice that you choose must:

• be an enterprise-level technology;
• address a key organizational need;
• impact an organization’s core technology infrastructure;
• and potentially impact the organization’s key mission and goals.

IT Analysis Brief

Each brief should have a cover sheet that includes a title for the brief, student’sname, the course number and title, and date. The analysis brief should be 3-5pages in length (excluding cover page and references), 11 or 12-point font, double-spaced, and include page numbers (begin on page 2). You should use a clear concise business writing style. Make sure to use reliable unbiased sources to support your discussion. Use an adequate amount of source material as to adequately support the discussion. Use empirical evidence to support your discussion whenever possible. Use the APA citation style for in-text citations and the reference list.

Your brief should discuss the following aspects of the technology:

1. What is the IT system or application?
2. What is the purpose of the technology or application?
3. What issues was the technology intended to address? How significant were these issues? How successful has it been at addressing these issues?.
4. When was the technology developed?
5. Who (company, individual, agency) developed the technology?
6. How long did it take for the technology to be developed? Were specifictechnical and social challenges overcome during its development?
7. To what extent has the technology been adopted by users (i.e. individual users or organizations)? To what effect?
8. What are the technical and organizational costs and benefits associatedwith adopting the technology or application? If possible, provide examples.
9. Has the adoption and use of the technology presented any unforeseenchallenges to the adopters? Or, to other stakeholder groups? If possible, provide examples.
10. Who are the major vendors associated with providing the technology and/or assisting with its adoption by users?
11. How much market share do these vendors hold in providing this technology or service?
12. Is the technology directly subject to specific industry standards, certifications, or regulation? If so, please discuss.
13. To what extent is the technology still current in addressing the issues which spurred its development?
14. What organizational or industry phenomena, would most directly impact future development of the technology?
15. Are there new issues or challenges that may cause users to seek another technology or application rather than the one that you chose to examine?
16. Do you feel that this technology is currently state-of-the-art in regardstoits main competitors?

You should address all these issues in your brief. The brief should be in a narrative form that addresses these questions in an integrated fashion. Similarly, you should provide evidence to support the discussion. You may use sectionheadings to break up the narrative discussion into orderly subsections. Donot just create a list of the questions and provide answers.
