Section I  
Imagine you are a teacher of class 10 or 11. Students ask these questions. What would your response be? (Each answer should be less than 300 words). 
1. My mother wanted to join the local political party. My father convinced her that this will be an additional burden that she is not very good at politics anyway. Now mother says she wants to devote herself to the home and children, and she is happy. My aunt says, this is how my father wields power over my mother. Why is she calling this power, when there was no fight or argument? 
2. All citizens are allowed to participate in taking critical decisions that are important for our country. We only expect that they should be systematic, speak clearly and share their opinions effectively. Penny Enslin says this is too strict and limiting; we should also include emotional and embodied talk. What does she mean by this? How do we do this in a political meeting?  

3. Our MLA is deciding to build a six lane flyover from one end of our constituency to another. This will get rid of all the traffic jams caused by people driving big cars. Why is he accountable to people from other constituencies or other countries who are not affected by this flyover?

4. That man is very wise and knowledgeable. He will tell all of us how we can change our life and be happy. We should elect him as head of our country. He will take good decisions for all of us. My father says this will be undemocratic. Why does he call this undemocratic?

5. Patricia White says democracy is not about developing perfect, admirable citizens. Instead, she says, it is the only acceptable form of government which protects everyone from abuse of power. That is so little, and depressing. Why does she define democracy like this?

Section 2. 

1. An example of a statement that represents Organic Nationalism:
a society having mental and emotional bonds with a particular, well-defined territory and imbued with a sense of we-ness acquires the nomenclature of Nation in that particular piece of land. The great men who contribute to its protection, progress and prosperity evoke deep feelings of reverence and gratitude in that society. And the attachment to values of life and traditions born out of a long existence in that land also become a major link for binding the people of that nation to one another.”
a. Why is it important for people of a nation to be bound to each other by “values of life and traditions”? What could be the problem with this? 

b. According to this theory, everyone should be educated to be proud of the nation by learning the nation’s glorious history. Do you think this is alright? Explain why.

2. Penny Enslin says, if we want equal citizenship we should educate boys to partly turn their attention away from involvement in politics. Like women, men should also learn to be good citizens in the domestic sphere. 
Why is she saying that for equal citizenship boys need to pay less attention to the public sphere, and more to the domestic sphere? Share your opinion on this with good reasons.
