LT4241:  Linguistics Assignment Help

For the final (DEC-oriented) paper, you should choose a topic on the syntax of one or more languages. The language(s) can be Cantonese, Mandarin, English, etc. If you decide to work on a language that you don’t speak as a native speaker, you need to have an informant. There is otherwise no restriction on the topic, but here are some directions:

• a comparison of some data points, and a preliminary analysis

• a critical, in-depth discussion/rebuttal of an existing analysis in the literature

• how a theoretical analysis could be helpful in actual practice (e.g., language teaching)

1 Structure of your paper

• Title page: See “Styles” section below.

• Table of contents: with section numbers, subsection numbers (if any), and page numbers

• Introduction: This part contains your motivation for choosing the topic. State your goal in relation to the topic and give an outline of the paper.

• Empirical facts/data: First, describe the data.

• Analysis: Then introduce the analysis that you think is appropriate for the chosen data. If you conducted a corpus study or a survey on linguistic judgment, describe the method or design (participants, questionnaire, name of the corpus, etc.). Then state your results.

• Conclusion: Give a summary of your results and relate them to the goals discussed in the Introduction and to the findings discussed in the Analysis section. Discuss problems which occurred and open questions which remain. You may also give an outlook on further developments or discuss some implications.

• References: In the references you list all works cited in your paper according to the styles listed below.

• Appendix (optional): You may have extensive corpus data, tables of results, and so on. These belong in an appendix.

2 Styles of your paper

• Length: 1800 to 2000 words (excluding title page, table of contents, references and appendix). This is roughly 6–8 pages (1.5-spaced).

• Font & margins: 2.54 cm margins on all sides. Times New Roman, size 12, 1.5-spaced

• Language: Academic English

• Title page: The title page should have the following format:
