Assignment Task: MAA310 Description / Requirements Background: Many Australian companies, owned by multinational corporations, have been asked by the Australian Tax Office (ATO) to explain why the profits they earn on large revenue numbers are so low. The ATO perceives that profits are reduced as a result of intercompany expenses being used as a means of moving corporate profits to lower tax regions. Required: You are required to write a report to the Deputy Commissioner of Taxation, that:

1. Evaluates, using agency theory, why some Australian companies, which are subsidiaries of international corporations choose to transfer profits to lower tax regions, and other companies which are international subsidiaries do not.
2. Explains the arguments based on legitimacy theory that the ATO could use to encourage Australian companies to record their profits and pay their taxes in Australia.
