Sydney is chosen to be the city to host the 2023 New World Olympiad, an international multi-sport event, which 54 Commonwealth nations are expected to attend and participate in 54 events in 31 different sports. The event is scheduled to run from Fri, 28 Jul 2023 – Sun, 6 Aug 2023. Over 5,000 athletes are expected to participate. Over 500,000 are expected to attend and spectate these events all around Sydney and millions more on the internet.
Alice, a seasoned event coordinator who is currently working for the FIBA (Fédération Internationale de Basketball) World Cup, has been chosen to coordinate the basketball events held across the Qudos Bank Arena, ANZ Stadium, ICC convention center, and The Dome venues. Alice has been given 2 years to start creating plans on how to run these events smoothly whilst not breaching the Major Events Act 2009. Alice needs to find accommodation for the players and staff, transportation, training facilities, security, food, and beverage, etc.
Alice's first event is the first round of the basketball championships; the USA vs Australia. All tickets are sold out. The jump ball (start of the game) was scheduled at 4.00 pm Saturday 25th July. Team USA is warming up at the Dome arena whereas Team Australia is warming up at the Qudos Bank Arena. The game will be held at Qudos Bank Arena due to the available capacity. The distance between the venues is a 5-minute drive and a 20-minute walk. The closest train station in the area is Olympic Park Station.
