Highlights
The new business venture must be capable of expansion either regionally, nationally or internationally and achieve a Profitable Return on Investment by at least year 3. Plans which propose a single café or other form of hospitality venture, usually a café or restaurant which achieve very low revenue and cannot be expanded will not be acceptable. The purpose of this unit is to acquaint students with the problems of planning for sustainable growth in times of rapid change. The business venture does not have to be unique, but it cannot be based on an existing venture e.g. Franchises for existing operations (such as McDonalds, KFC, Blockbuster, etc.,) are NOT acceptable examples. Plans based on templates found on bPlans.com or similar sites will be automatically graded zero marks.
The presentation
Students will be using video technology to prepare the presentation. Although students can use Power Point to prepare the recorded presentation it is strongly suggested that students rather use video apps such as iMovie. A whole tutorial session in week 3 will be spent going through software applications that are available.
The Investor Pitch presentation is more about the high-level problem and solution rather than providing detailed numbers. You need to convince your potential investors that you have a good business idea.
What to include in the Investor Pitch video?
The Investor Pitch will be about 5 minutes long and must contain the following points:
Presenting you Investor Pitch video
Students will play their Investor Pitch video to the class and a potential investor (who shall be played by the lecturer).
At the end of the video presentation there will be questions from the class and the potential investor.
At the end of the presentation one student will post the presentation video onto Moodle along with an Assessment Cover sheet (please note only one submission per group).
