1. Choosing TWO diversity groups (see the requirements below)

2. Choosing one area of HRM (see below) to focus on.

3. Searching the literature for relevant theories, concepts, and empirical findings.

4. Constructing a report that provides an in-depth analysis of the diversity issues using relevant literature.

5. Discussing the current practices which are used to resolve the issues.

6. Providing clear practical recommendations that need to be implemented by HR within an organisation (at strategic or operational levels) to address the chosen diversity issue. These recommendations need to be based on the research literature.

The report should incorporate a minimum of eight (8) scholarly, peer-reviewed journal articles published within the last 10 years . The prescribed textbook may be referenced but will not count as one of the 8 required references. You may cite articles dated prior to the last 10 years, but this does not count towards the minimum eight references. Websites (including dictionaries, encyclopaedias, business magazines available online, and blog posts) will not be included in assessing whether you have met the minimum referencing requirements (i.e. these are not scholarly, peer-reviewed sources and should be avoided in academic writing).

Diverse Group Options

In addition to a consideration of Indigenous Australians , you must choose ONE ADDITIONAL diversity group from the following list:

• Younger workers, or
• Older workers, or
• Ethnic/Migrant backgrounds (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse, but not Indigenous Australians), or
• Workers who identify as LGBTIQ+, or
• Workers who identify as people living with a disability (you can narrow down to one specific area e.g. physical, intellectual, autism spectrum disorders, chronic illness).

Human Resource Management Functions

• Recruitment, E.g., targeted recruitment to attract diverse job applicants
• Selection, E.g., reducing bias/barriers preventing diverse job applicants being selected
• Human Resource Development, E.g., improving training and development opportunities for diverse employees
• Performance Appraisal, E.g., reducing bias in evaluating the performance of diverse employees
• Reward Human Resources, E.g., minimize the pay gap between diverse employees and mainstream employees

Think critically about what Human Resource Managers would do in terms of engaging diversity within a large workplace, and research what is considered to be ‘best practice’ in this area. Analyse the literature to help you to gain an understanding of the issues, practices relating to your particular aspect of diversity and your chosen area of HRM practice. Then make recommendations for providing a best practice approach to managing diversity practices for your chosen diversity issues, for which organisations and other stakeholders should adopt in Australia.
