You are writing a report for the manager of a company you have worked for, an internship, a volunteer role etc. This can be either in a service or a manufacturing environment. The report suggests the implementation of a ‘lean project’ for a particular business situation in the organization.

Part 2 A of this assessment is an individual report. The remainder of the report is a write-up test (Part 2B) which will be conducted in Week 8 in class. Topics for Part A and Part B are discussed below. You are allowed to bring one A4page of notes to the test (in English). This page will be submitted with the test booklet.

ASSESSMENT 2A: INDIVIDUAL REPORT

Contents to be included in the report
1. Business case and metrics
 Briefly introduce the business

•  Describe the project (within the business unit) that will be addressed including its scope (first step / last step); describe the problem that will be solved by the project
•  Identify, discuss and justify at least three (3) suitable metrics/KPI’s upon which improvement efforts are focused. One of these is usually lead time.
• Construct the charter which establishes the importance of the project either to customers or internal customers if the project is for internal efficiencies.

2. Analysis of ‘Lean Issues’

•  Draw a comprehensive VMS
•  Clearly interpret VMS
•  Calculate and discuss
