Margaret Case Study

Margaret is a 52 yo woman who has had an unhealthy diet for several years. This diet has caused Margaret’s blood cholesterol to become elevated. After having lunch at home one day, suddenly Margaret began to feel strong chest pain (angina), nausea, diaphoresis, and dyspnoea. Her daughter was with her at the time contacted the ambulance.

  • The prehospital team at the scene described Margaret’s condition as unstable angina.
  • Compare and contrast stable and unstable angina in coronary heart disease. A subsequent ECG was conducted which showed ST-segment elevation. Explain what a STEMI is and compare this to an NSTEMI.
  • For the STEMI it was determined that the drug tenecteplase would be suitable to administer for this patient. Describe the MOA of tenecteplase and explain why this drug could be used as a treatment for STEMI.
