Scenario for Assignment Work (Context)
“You have been working as a Marketing Assistant for Talented Gen & Co – a small marketing agency located in Sydney. Last week, Mary Blue- your Marketing Manager – has offered you a position as Junior Marketing Associate, and to be successful you need to develop a Marketing Plan for a client of your choice.”

You must choose a small to medium sized business (SME – generally considered as one with less than 200 employees) currently operating in Australia as a client. It must be a business to consumer (B2C).

 You may wish to select from the list of businesses- industries provided as a resource in the brief handed out in Lecture 1 ‘Overview of Assessment 1’.
OR
 You may as an option consider a small business (B2C) that you are interested in/ familiar within your area/ that you work in/ that is run by family and friends. (Note that this business needs to have an operating website, you can obtain information on the industry, business activity and you can identify at least 2 competitors).

Prepare a Written Report
The written report should include the following sections and details.

 Cover Page

o Business Name & A Visual (Logo, Product Shot etc)
o Student Name and ID Number
o Subject code and name

Identify one (1) indirect competitor

o In the direct competitor analysis use the 4P’s framework for a meaningful comparison.

Tip – Include product range, look at the brand image elements.
o A table format is suggested to set out the information
o Looking to understand competitor’s strengths and weaknesses – can your business gain any competitive advantage.

Tip – identify at least 1-2 strengths and 1-2 weaknesses for each competitor – if you can - this could be used in your SWOT table in the Summary.
