A colleague objects that the hypothesis test should not proceed, because the sample isn't large enough. Draft a short answer to the colleague. [2]

2. [12 marks] In a survey of 1825 randomly-selected adult Australian internet users, 1523 said that they obtain health information on the internet.

(a) Use these data to evaluate the evidence that at least four-fifths of adult Australian internet users get health information from the internet. Assume α = 1%, use a P-value approach, and include all relevant steps of a formal hypothesis test. [10]

(b) Can the conclusion from part (a) be generalised to the Australian adult population? Explain why or why not. [2]

3. Sulphur compounds in wine can make the wine smell ‘off’, so winemakers are interested in the odour threshold, i.e., the minimum concentration at which the human nose can detect such ‘off’ odours. Among trained wine tasters, the odour threshold for dimethyl sulphide (DMS) is about 25 microgrammes per litre (μg/L) of wine. The untrained noses of wine consumers may be less sensitive, however. The data file DMS.csv contains observations of odour thresholds (in μg/L) obtained from a lab class of 10 biochemistry students.
