Take the First Five Years Mathematics Evaluative Tool [FFYMET] available in Blackboard via the link above this information. The FFYMET Test contains 15 two-part questions that need to be completed within 30 minutes. Please read the FFYMET folder for detailed information relating to this test. Each question has two parts. Part a questions (those with an a after the question number) are multiple answer questions and may have MORE than one answer – all required answers need to be selected for Part a questions to be marked correct. Part b questions (those with a b after the question number) provide a way to interrogate your mathematical engagement through three sub-questions addressing how easy you found the question, how confident you are about your answer, and whether you felt anxious about the content of the question – note that there are no ‘right or wrong’ answers (no marks are allocated to Part b sub-questions).
The aim of the evaluative tool is to identify areas within your mathematical skills and understanding that you need to improve, areas that are strengths, and your engagement with the areas of maths. Use your results on the FFYMET to help identify which of Bishop’s (1988, 1991) mathematical activities and concepts you consider your understanding and engagement to be strong, which areas your understanding needs improvement, and which areas your engagement is low. Bishop’s (1988, 1991) mathematical activities and concepts are provided with the text for Part a questions within [square brackets] – for more detail about Bishop’s mathematical activities and concepts, view the information available from this linProvide justification for your claims regarding your understandings and engagement, for example, from the FFYMET and other specific experiences. Include examples of what young children engaging in each of Bishop’s (1988, 1991) mathematical activities might look like – focus on quality rather than quantity by being detailed in your example for each mathematical activity.
