Brief Subject Description

This subject develops students' understanding of the nature and importance of communication within a business organizational context. The subject also develops students' communication skills for both academic and work-related purposes. Communication forms are examined and evaluated as practices used to engender shared understanding among stakeholders. Both management and communications theory is used to explore and understand the impact of cultural and other variables upon both internal and external organizational communication. 

Assessment 1: Business Communication Skills Exercises

Students are required to consistently attend and actively participate in class. Students will be assessed through individual and group in-class exercises in oral and written communications

Assessment 2: Essay Question 

In this assignment, students will be required to demonstrate an understanding of communications theory and the importance of effective communications within an organisational context.

Assessment 3: Group Report 

In small groups of 4-5, students are required to examine and analyse the effectiveness of communication in a specific organizational context.
