Highlights
Your Task Group Component:
Analyze a report on digital technologies. Discuss the finding and present insights to the class. Individual Component: Individually summarise the learnings in a brief report.
Background: In 2013 Deloitte produced a report on digital disruption. The report looked at how businesses were responding to the digital age. The basic lesson from the report was that the sooner businesses responded and adopted new technologies and methodologies, the better off they would be in the future. The report divided business types into quadrants (see figure below). Companies that were likely to experience digital disruption within 3 years of the study were said to be on a “short fuse”, while those who were likely to have the same experience over a longer time frame were said to be on a “long fuse”. Similarly, companies expecting to see 15 to 50% change in their business metrics were said to be set for a “big bang” (large impact) while others below 15%, were set for a “small bang” (small impact). For example, Retail, ICT and media are in the “short fuse, big bang” quadrant expecting a lot of digital disruption soon, whereas Education is in the “long fuse, big bang” quadrant, expecting a lot of digital disruption over a longer time than retail, etc.
