Aim
This unit aims to develop awareness and understanding of the principles and practices of Organisational Behaviour and Management, and equip students with the tools to evaluate critically the practice of OBM. The broad aims of this unit are to:
• Provide an overview of how people interact and how they influence organisational capabilities and the way organisations function.
• Facilitate an insight into attitudes, skills, and knowledge that can assist with leadership and management in organisations.
• Enable students to examine current OBM issues and practices and develop solutions to problems they have encountered.
• Assist new students, and those returning to studying, to develop academic learning skills.

Assessment
The aim of the assessment process is for you to consolidate your learning, and to demonstrate that you have assimilated the principles and concepts required for this unit.
Assessment 1
At the end of each of Modules 1-5 you will be expected to complete a quiz comprising 10 multiple-choice questions that cover key concepts from the relevant text chapters. You will access each quiz through the LMS and be required to complete it within 15 minutes.
Throughout the unit you will be assessed on your contribution to professional practice. Using multisource evaluation your Lecturer will make an appraisal of your contribution based on two sources.
1. Completion of pre-seminar, seminar and post-seminar activities – see LMS.
2. Observed task/behavioural input to discussions (in class for internal students and through class forum for external students) – see LMS.
Assessment 2: Position Paper
In this assignment you will work as a member of a group to produce a position paper on ONE of the following topics:
• Personality testing
• Communication technologies
• Team behaviours.
A position paper presents an argued opinion about an issue. It presents an argument that supports one side of a defined question or statement about an issue, similar to a debate. The argument is supported with evidence to ensure the validity of your claim and address any counter claims.
Position papers are commonly used in many organisations such as not-for-profits, corporates and government (local, state, national and international) to argue a view for a particular course of action. The position paper may also be used to develop resourcing requirements.
It has two-part:
Part A: Annotated Bibliography
Part B: Paper
