General Requirement

1. Drawing elements, including the drawing sheet layout and title block, shall conform to the specifications given in the lecture notes or Australian drawing standards.

2. All drawings shall be drawn in third-angle projection system. The placement of the views on the drawing must conform to the indicated direction of the front view in the question. For information on the placement of orthographic views, refer to the lecture notes on orthographic projection.

3. Create one drawing per drawing sheet (i.e. all views of the same object must be on the same page).

4. All drawings in this assignment require orthogonal views. If not specified, SIDE view refers to the right-side view. Draw more views if the specified views were not enough to describe the objects completely.

5. The orthogonal views in all the drawings shall be complete in all aspects, including hidden details. A valid reason with a complete reference to a drawing standard, drawing handbook, or lecture notes must be provided if any of the drawing features, such as hidden details are omitted from a drawing.

6. For this assignment, it is essential to show a correct cutting plane on the drawing that involves a sectional view. A valid reason with a complete reference to a drawing standard/book must be cited if a cutting plane is omitted.

7. Centre the views within the work area (i.e. the drawing frame). Allow approximately 50 mm between views. You may need more space between the views depending on the number of dimensions. The views shall not be placed too close to the borders. There must be a reasonable space between views and borders (about 30 mm).

8. Any construction / projection lines must be removed before submitting the drawings.

9. Provide a title block, indication of projection system, and the relevant information on each drawing.

10. The specified sectional view shall replace the relevant regular view.

11. Identify every drawing by listing its title and drawing identification number. Use the object name as the drawing title and part number as the drawing identification number.

12. All the given information shall be indicated on the drawings.

13. Where necessary, the views should be labelled appropriately. Correct labelling of the sectional and auxiliary views is essential.

14. When preparing the assembly drawing, use separate balloons and numbers for each part in each view or use only one balloon in the view that most clearly identifies the part. It is also essential to distinguish between parts when applying section lines (hatching) to the components.

15. The drawing, including the sheet layout and title block, shall be drawn in AutoCAD. There is NO provision for submitting a manual drawing for any of the questions in this assessment.

16. Provide details of assumptions and/or explanations, if any, on a separate A4 page.

2. Draw the necessary orthographic views to describe the object in Figure Q2. The drawing shall include the following views:

  • a half sectional front  view from A
  • a side view from B

3. Create a drawing of the object shown in Figure Q3. The drawing shall include the following views:

a) A Full sectional front view

b) A left side view

c) A partial auxliary view

4. Create a general assembly drawing of the Grinding Wheel Assembly in Figure Q4. The drawing shall contain a full sectional view. (Remember: A general assembly drawing shows all the components assembled)
