Welcome
Welcome to the INDIVIDUAL STUDY 20 at Canterbury Christ Church University. This module is part of the Undergraduate Computing Suite offered within the School of Law, Criminal Justice and Computing. The accompanying Programme handbook can be found on the Computing All Years General Blackboard.

Module Aims
This module is the culmination of a student's learning experiences on the entire course and as such Individual Studies (IS) will reflect the programme’s title, aims and learning outcomes. Students will, under the guidance of a supervisor, undertake an extended piece of focussed research, building on work completed elsewhere on the course, by means of an in-depth study of one aspect of such work or by the exploration of a new area.

In all cases sufficient skills must previously have been acquired by the student and the Individual Study itself must be deemed viable. The module aims to provide an opportunity for students to develop their skills while combining disciplined study with personal interest. As such it provides a context for the unification, consolidation, analysis, synthesis, integration and further development of the knowledge and practical skills cultivated elsewhere in the course as well as an opportunity for both creativity and innovation.

The IS 20 module is unlike any of the other courses on the degree programme. Rather than being based on lectures, tutorials, coursework and/or an examination it requires you to work independently on a subject that you are interested in, and to present the results of your work in the form of a written submission. Most students find the process of tackling a substantial IS a useful and rewarding experience. The IS that you undertake should give you the opportunity to:
*explore a topic in depth;
*produce a quality product that demonstrates a sound grasp of the basic principles underpinning the degree programme;
*exercise skills that will be important to you in your future career;
*demonstrate initiative, motivation and the ability to work individually, in an organised fashion, over an extended period;
*demonstrate your skills to prospective employers, who are often very interested in student project work during interviews;
*potentially develop links between the other subjects and/or courses that you may be studying
