You belong to the group that is preaching against organizations producing or engaging in activities with the sole aim of making a profit without considering its consequences on the environment. Interestingly, anytime issues with sustainability come up. The organizations that come to mind are the manufacturing, automobile, and service industry. However, one sector that gains little attention within the context of environmentally sustainable innovation is the sports sector. Most interest groups seem to neglect the impact of sports activities on the environment because most people only consider the fun aspect of the sector. However, sporting events are one of the actors that indeed contribute significantly to environmental pollution from traveling from one place to another using airlines or big buses which discharge CO2 into the atmosphere. Apart from this, the manufacturing of sportswear, food waste, and plastic waste during events all contribute to environmental problems. Your group has been invited by the UN to address nations on the impact of the sports industry on the environment on the topic “the contribution of the sports sector to global warming or climate change: the way forward”.
