Assignment Task

Mental health disorders (MHDs) are widespread conditions that impact patients’ personal lives, their families, and society. Common MHDs include depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and panic disorder. MHDs are manageable when professional intervention is provided. Treatment for MHDs consists of a combination of psychotherapy and medications. Despite established treatment effectiveness, many individuals do not receive it, get ineffective treatment, or do not adhere to it. The literature suggests several factors associated with adherence to MHD medication therapy. Some of these include gender, age, healthcare access/insurance, and prescribing physician specialty. Other factors can be found in the extant literature.

Design a study that explores different factors associated with adherence to MHD medication.

1. Identify in detail the population in the study.

2. Identify in detail the sample that would be selected, the inclusion and exclusion criteria.

3. Indicate the sample size and why you chose this number. Note: keep in mind to choose a manageable size as you will have to input the values of the variables in your dataset. I suggest a number between 40 and 70 observations/participants.

4. Describe in detail the dependent variable:

a Provide the conceptual definition (what the variable means in words).

b. Provide the operational definition (provide all numerical values the variable can take and what each value represents in words).

5. Describe in detail six independent variables in your model.

a. Describe three dichotomous independent variables.

b. Describe three continuous independent variables.

For each of these variables:

I. Provide the conceptual definition (what the variable means in words).

ii. Provide the operational definition (provide all numerical values the variable can take and what each value represents in words).

6. State your hypotheses associated with your variables.

7. Indicate a statistical method to evaluate your hypotheses.

8. Given your selected sample size at point (3), use your preferred statistical package (Minitab, SPSS, or any other) to construct a dataset containing values for all your dependent and independent variables. While the inputted values are fictional, make sure they are reasonable or otherwise explain any discrepancies. Share a screenshot of your dataset (it doesn’t have to show all your values, but it must show the variable names and a few values).

9. Use the statistical method you chose at point (7). Share/copy the statistical package output you obtain.

10. Explain how to interpret the coefficients for each of the dichotomous independent variables.

11. Explain how to interpret the coefficients for each of the continuous independent variables.

12. Make the statistical decision of whether you can reject your hypotheses or not.

13. Based on your findings, what are the conclusions of the study?
