Mental Health Nursing Assessment Answer
Assignment Task:
Task -
Students are required to reflect on the Live Simulation workshop with experts by experience, Making it Real, and identify one relevant aspect of the simulation experience that has contributed to the development of their own recovery-focused nursing practice.
With reference to key literature, they are to write a reflection on how the identified aspect of the live simulation experience has contributed to the development of their own recovery- focused nursing practice, and this will be read in-class to their fellow students and the lecturer.
Live Simulation Workshop, Making it Real
The relevant aspect of the Live Simulation experience could be drawn from any of the following workshop components:
(i) the verbal interactions between the expert by experience and the student, or
(ii) the verbal feedback provided by the expert to the student, or
(iii) the guided whole group reflection conducted after the interactions with the expert.
Recovery-focused Mental Health Nursing Practice Development
• Recovery-focused nursing practice development refers to the ways in which you can improve your own nursing practice: the ways in which you think about, behave towards, and interact/communicate with people diagnosed with a mental illness, so as to support their recovery.
• As a soon-to-be Registered Nurse, you need to think about your practice and not nurses’ practice generally: what you might need to change in regard to your own behavior, beliefs, attitudes, and knowledge in relation to recovery-focused mental health nursing practice.
• You need to read relevant literature about understandings of personal recovery and recovery-focused mental health nursing, and then think about how your own practice could be developed/improved in light of your simulation experience with the experts and the literature. Inclusion of Supporting Literature.
• You need to include some key literature in the reflection that relates to the identified aspect of the simulation and support the development of your recovery-focused mental health nursing practice.
• An easy way to do this, and not interrupt the flow of your presentation, is to number each of the intext-references, from 1 for the first reference mentioned, followed by 2 and only refer to the number, rather than the authors’ names.
• List the references numerically on the reference list, rather than alphabetically, which will be projected to the audience.
• The reference list can easily be displayed as a hardcopy on the document camera. Using a USB is more time consuming so a hardcopy of the reference list is preferred for projection to the class. Reading your reflection in class
• As this assessment item requires that you read your reflection to the class, you are not able to use any other presentation formats – you cannot use powerpoint slides nor any other props or presentation formats.
• It is important that you consider the impact of the points you wish to highlight to your audience as this is an oral presentation only.
• Be mindful of the language and phrases you use and of your voice tone, volume, and rate so that your reflection is clearly understood by the audience who will assess your work.
• You are advised to practice reading your reflection prior to the in-class presentation and ensure that it meets the maximum time requirement of 5 minutes duration.
