This project seeks to help you (as a student) integrate language competence, computer literacy, business maths skills, ethical research process and objective reporting, and accounting skills in a practical, rather than abstract assessment. Examples of the competencies the project contains:

Business Maths: Partnerships, statistics, amortization, methods of calculating depreciation and Cost-Volume- Profit analysis.
DRAFT TERMS OF REFERENCE OF THE PROJECT
- Identify a product/service you would like to sell/supply. The process of identification of the product/ must be preceded by comparing three products for consideration. Do the following:
- Prepare and conduct a survey of 20 potential customers before you make a choice
- Illustrate, by means of graphs and tables, the results and provide an analysis to justify the chosen product. Include some statistics in your analysis such as measures of central tendency and/or dispersion, etc. Your illustration needs to include at least one measure of central and one measure of dispersion.
- Determine, on the above basis, where your business will be located
- Establish the amount of capital that should be raised to start the business. Consider information from the internet platforms (websites, YouTube, etc.) on the most basic things needed to start a business to justify your proposed and projected capital.
- Research different sources from which you can raise the capital (personal, loans, etc.)
- By review of three literature sources of information, advise which source is better and why a business loan is the sort-out option for raising capital. Review and make a comparison of three financial institutions offers.
- Interview 5 people who may have any other information you need for purposes of making the right choices about the product / service, starting a business, challenges of starting a business, etc.
- Explore three existing business organograms and illustrate and justify the organogram chosen for your business model.
- Devise a proposed budget for the next three years on the following:
- Fixed costs and variable costs
- Incomes and expenses
- Product pricing (supposing that inflation rate increases by 2% in 2022 and decreases by a percentage point in the last quarter of 2023)
- Interest payments (supposing that interest rates remain unchanged in 2021, go up by 1% in 2022, and then go up by 1.5% in 2023)
- Assets, depreciation
- Choose one asset: movable or immovable.
- Assume that the rate of depreciation is 1.7% per trimester.
- Choose two methods of calculating depreciation and prepare a depreciation schedule.
- Conduct a Cost-Volume- Profit analysis for the product or service you are offering.
- Prepare and interpret a cost-volume-profit (CVP) graph
- Determine the break-even point (in units).
- Determine the level of sales needed to achieve a desired target profit.
- Prepare a power point presentation (NB: For BEA122 this will be examined and weighted separately under the Test two 2 weight)
- NB: you are to submit a provisional report the first on 23 September 2021 and a final report on 22 October 2021.

- 1.5. line spacing
- Distribute your text evenly between the margins to make it look crisp and polished
- Number your preliminary pages by roman figures (i, ii, etc.), and number your actual content (from introduction to the list of references) using numbers (1, 2, etc.).
- Your font size must be 10 for captions
- Captions must be written in italics
- All headings and sub-headings must be numbered accordingly. DO NOT WRITE headings in CAPITAL LETTERS.
