1. Overview The Strategic Report comprises of two parts:

Part A: Strategic Organisation Analysis (individual) 30%, 2000 words. Due 4pm, Thursday Week 5 (26th August 2021) (Melbourne Time) And, Part B: Strategic Leadership Analysis (team) 25%, 15-minute presentation and team diary. Due 4pm, Thursday Week 10 (7th October 2021) (Melbourne Time) In this assessment, students should research then critically analyse the construct of strategic leadership within one of the following organisations (no other organisations can be used):

• Facebook, Inc (corporate, global): https://investor.fb.com/home/default.aspx. This is Facebook/Instragram/ WhatsApp etc’s parent company (not just Facebook, the social media site).

• Yum China Holdings Inc (corporate, China): https://ir.yumchina.com/ • Ford (corporate, US) :https://corporate.ford.com/ Students will need to analyse the strategic decisions, actions and leadership between 2018 and now (2021) to then offer recommendations for ongoing (and future) success. Place yourself in the role of a consultant undertaking an analysis of the organisation’s current situation (Part A) and top leadership (Part B) in order to highlight recommendations for ongoing competitive advantage and long-term success. The audience for the Strategic Report (both parts) is the senior management team in the organisation. Every aspect of your submission should be appropriate for this audience. Please note: It does not matter if team members have completed different organisations for Part A, as a team you will choose which organisation you will focus on in Part B. Finally, the best advice I can give is to create assessment success is: Start early and work consistently. When you are completing Part B, do NOT leave it to one person to finish it, rather create a shared document so everyone can see the quality of work prepared by each team member well in advance and all work together to finish, record and upload one cohesive and professional submission. Do not leave it to the last minute, this is when problems are most likely to occur. FYI: In real life, typically a strategic report like this would normally be as one document, but for the purposes of study and feedback, it is split it into two parts. It is also common to do a strategic report presentation to the client before sending the final (more comprehensive) written report. This way the senior management (or client) can give feedback which can be incorporated into the written report. It is a more efficient use of time and there are no surprises.

2 Overview General Guidelines:

• Students are required to incorporate theories/concepts/models and illustrative examples wherever necessary.

• It is important that the assignment reflects a student's (or teams) understanding of relevant literature. An effective integration of these materials to the discussion is vital.

• This Strategic Report (Part A and Part B) is research-based. The quality of the sources of information is important. Annual reports and the reference sections of the textbook are a good place to start. Please only use English language sources as we may need to verify information.

• No coversheet is required, this is a part of the Moodle submission process.

• You are welcome to use figures and tables on your slides, their relevance must be explained in your notes section (Part A) or verbally (Part B).

• You are welcome to use sub-headings within different sections of your report (not all sections will require this, this will be useful for the strategic leadership section in part B).
