Assignment Task

For this semester, you will demonstrate your ability to interact with a professional-grade database management system (DBMS) by installing, creating a database, creating and loading tables and data, and using SQL to query and manipulate the data

1) Install the MySQL DBMS as per instructions in chapters 10 and 10C of the book. Chapter 10C is available online from the publisher, and I have placed a copy on BrightSpace. You will need to download MySQL for your particular operating system.

2) I have provided you with one database (sem_projectA) which you can import into your MySQL DBMS (use file MakeDB in Project Handouts.) This database has a lot of tables, but you will not use all of them. It only is provided to allow you to illustrate certain queries. I also will provide you with an EER diagram for the full database. Use the following steps to import the database:

a) Point to the Administration tab under the list of databases. Your list of databases may be different

b) The Data Import window displays the Import from Disk tab contents. Select Import from Self-Contained File and select the file you downloaded from BrightSpace

c) When the import is complete, close the Data Import tab, if desired, by clicking the ‘x’ on the tab title.

d) If you do not see the imported database (in this case, sem_project_a), click on the refresh icon. Often, this is necessary when database or table additions or deletions

3) Perform the following queries with the given results as shown. Save your query code in the following order into a single .sql file, e.g., MickQueriesA.sql, using your own last name. Your script must be able to be run repeatedly as a single file. Use comments to document, including your name.
