This paper provides students with a strong background and understanding of organisational and motivational theories and the application of these in the development of internal and external environmental analyses for an organisation.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of this paper, students will be able to:
1. Examine organisation theory in relation to management in organisations.
2. Examine motivation theory in relation to management in organisations.
3. Conduct internal and external environmental analyses for an organisation.
CONTENT AND CONTEXT
The paper will involve mainly online based learning methodologies which may include: study guides, discussion boards, interactive learning materials, presentations, research, case studies, videos, self- directed learning.
An organisation is defined as a group of people who work together in an organised way for a shared purpose (Cambridge Dictionaries Online). Cartwright (2013) says the defining characteristic of an organisation is, as its name suggests, its state of being organised. He goes on to say that an organisation is an arrangement of interdependent parts, each having a special function with respect to the whole. And the remarkable thing about an organisation is the regularity of behaviour and co-ordination of activities by the organisation’s human elements.
