Assignment 1: Journal 

Objective 

Assignment 1 in this course is writing journal posts from week 2 onwards to reflect on things learned on the course that week. The aim of writing the journals is to reflect, analyze and comment on selected topic(s) discussed during the lectures through literature and real-life examples. Writing of reflective journals is an effective and fun learning tool facilitating personal and professional growth as a critical writer. 
Each student should write a minimum 4 journals (maximum 6). The best 4 are evaluated. The key to writing a journal is to draw on the lectures and literature. However, students should not just repeat what the lecturer said or what was written in slides, textbooks, or journal articles, but the students should go deeper in analysis from a managerial point-of-view and speak with their own voice. It’s your own critical analysis and insights that count and you should raise such issues in your journals. I will also provide feedback on the first journal for each student to help you get on track and to give feedback on your learning process. Instructions: 

Each journal should be around 500 words in length. Choose 1-2 interesting concepts discussed during the lecture/literature that week. When writing the journal, discuss the topic in critical light and address also your own insights and view of the issue(s) at hand based on your own experiences. You should also use academic literature to support your analysis and arguments. Use Google Scholar to find academic articles and books. 

Tips  for writing the journals: 
• KISS = Keep it short and simple

• Use references sparingly (3-4 per journal is enough)

• Write using ‘I’ when voicing your own opinions and insights

• Always provide some criticism • Adopt a normative position: What should be done differently in your opinion and why?

• Message aimed to a wide audience (anyone should understand it) 

Assignment 2: Marketing strategy 

Assignment 2 in this course is group work (3 students in each group). Each team will develop a comprehensive marketing strategy for a UAE-based company that needs a “facelift”. Perhaps the company is not doing marketing very effectively or at all, or their marketing strategy is old and needs to be updated. Perhaps you could identify even new market segments or new product/service ideas to expand their business. 

The assignment consists of a written report (5000 words) done in groups of 3 students.  Each group chooses a client organization. It should be preferably a small or medium-sized company based in the UAE, any company that you can access easily to obtain primary data. Once you have chosen your client organization, you should inform me about your client organization, and then wait until to get my approval. This is done to make sure that each group has a different client organization to work on.
