Micky the client wants to produce and sell an automatic watering system for herb gardens. You are tasked as the engineer to produce a design which is suitable based on a Zilog Z8 embedded processor.
Micky has given the following requirements for the watering system,
The ability to control up to four different valves based on readings from four different soil moisture sensors.
A Bluetooth connection to the unit is required for wireless connectivity with the watering system. An single LED should display the status of the Bluetooth connection.

An Hitachi LCD controller(same as used in the labs) with four push button inputs is to be used.
An SPI based EEPROM memory is required so that configuration and data can be stored.
An I2C based Real Time Clock with a 32.768 kHz crystal so that time is known.
Two LED’s to indicate status of power supply’s.
The unit is to be connected to a 12v DC power supply. (Assume it has enough power for all of the electronics and the valves.)
Z8 should be surface mounted, LQFP/QFP package is preferable, assume 32kB of Flash memory is required.
The datasheets for the relevant components are on the LMS.
For each of the required components state what supporting hardware functionality is [12] required by the z8. (number of GPIO, SPI, UART etc.) Valves :
Summarise the hardware requirements for the z8 processor. [2]
Using the Z8 datasheet found on the LMS select an appropriate Z8 processor based [4] on the hardware requirements as given in the previous answer. Assume the smallest package/least amount of pins is the cheapest option. Ensure that you state the package size and type. (Please note if hardware requirements are incorrect then marks will be deducted for this question)
Make comment as to why you may not want to select the smallest Z8 in terms of [4] memory size.
Using the z8 selected draw a schematic. Please ensure the following, [15]
Appropriately sized pull-up/pull-down resistors, resistor dividers, by-pass capacitors are used.
The Z8 has appropriate electrical input voltages. Additional discrete components maybe required.
The Z8 has the ability to drive all the loads connected to it. Additional discrete components maybe required.
Follow where applicable the data sheet for schematic symbols and typical application schematics. If schematic symbol not given draw an appropriate schematic symbol based on the input/outputs for the device.
