Background - Case Study
On advice of Dr. Brendan Murphy, the newly appointed Director of Digital Healthcare and Infrastructure, AppleBridge Hospital is planning to develop a mobile phone app ‘ABCall4Care’, which is to be later distributed via its intranet and app platform. AppleBridge Hospital is a public hospital in one of Melbourne suburbs.

The app will run on their intranet ABHealth platform, smart phones and tablets. Via a very simple interface, the app will allow clinicians, inpatients and families to report an incident i.e. to call for care of services in the hospital. The call for care or incident report can be annotated with additional data including for example patient’s name and/or ID, what has happened, when, the required care service, and (optional) photos. The user’s ID and geo- location details will be automatically collected. The incident data will be assessed and responded accordingly. Incidents will be classified into Clinical&Urgent, Clinical&Non-urgent, and Others and assigned to a clinician or non-clinician staff member (such as security or cleaning staff) to address. The assigned staff member will assess the situation, take the required action(s), update the status of the incident or re-assign it to another staff member if needed. When the incident has been addressed, the assigned staff will record the outcome and close the call.

The collected data will be synchronised with the patient care records, analysed using data analytics software for patterns for various reporting purposes. The reports generated will be made available to different clinical groups and hospital management groups. Privacy considerations and patient safety are among top priority issues.

To undertake this task, you should use information provided in the above case study description, undertake background research into the domain and similar organisations, and make assumptions if you need additional details. Based on your independent research and readings, examine the client’s situation, identify their stakeholders and end users, and develop a plan to elicit their requirements for the proposed system.

Submit a brief requirements elicitation plan within two (2) A4 pages including the following:
1. Summarise the project purpose and scope in terms of the client’s needs, solution, value, stakeholders, context and changes
2. Identify the stakeholders and highlight the end users of the new system, describe theirroles and characteristics
3. Suggest the potentially key information to elicit, and identify sources of information
4. Select and describe a plan applying either two or three (2-3) requirements elicitation techniques potentially useful to collect stakeholders/users’ requirements for the new system, how to apply these techniques and why
5. Discuss and evaluate potential benefits as well as issues you may face as a business analyst when applying each of these techniques and how to overcome them
6. State a clear and specific plan to collect and elicit stakeholders’ requirements, as well as the client’s commitments to ensure successful requirement elicitation
