Your Dream Holidays is a small, but rapidly growing travel business operating out of Melbourne. The owner, Mr Colin Mcfarlane, started this business to organize sightseeing tours for tourists to visit various tourist attractions in the Victoria region. However, organizing sightseeing tours alone was not profitable due to strong competitions in the market. Colin decided to expand the operations to provide other types of travel experiences such as shopping and fashion tours, food and wine tours, and cultural and theme tours.

Within a year of beginning his operation, Colin’s business has expanded its operations beyond the Victoria region, to other states in Australia. He was also approached by tour operators in other regions seeking his help in getting their services booked with tourists. All bookings can be made through Your Dream Holidays, while the tours can be operated by Colin’s company itself or by other tour operators in specific regions. All tour bookings must specify an origin (starting location), a destination (visiting location) and an operator for the tour. The tour bookings can be made by local residents in Melbourne or tourists from anywhere in the world, prior to their arrival in Australia.

Due to several incidents in the tourism industry, tourists are getting more and more concerns about their safety and well-being. Colin’s company has partnered with insurance companies to provide a wide range of travel insurance products to their clients. Tourists can purchase travel insurance as a part of their tour booking or separately for other travel purposes.

A few years later, Colin found that he has become a travel agent with a network of 450 tour operators and travel insurance providers around Australia. He is generating a reasonable income from the commissions charged (5% of total transaction value).

So far, his business has been operating with temporary notes scribbled on notebooks in combination with a series of disorganised spreadsheets. But these tools are becoming inefficient and increasingly inept at managing the growing demands of the business. A transition to an information system is urgently needed.

You are employed as a business analyst at Deakin Innovative Solutions Ltd, a business-consulting firm. You are to investigate and develop a data model (an EER model) for the newly proposed system. Assumptions and business rules should be described and analysed.

After being alarmed by the recent security incidents reported in the media, Colin decides to employ a part-time System Administrator to manage system security. Your tasks are to:

• Identify 6 security threats to the proposed system (Choose a mix of internal/external, deliberate/unintentional threats).
• Classify each threat on a probability-impact matrix and explain your reasoning for the classification.
• For each threat which of the risk controls would you recommend? Justify your choice. If you have opted for avoidance or mitigation of risk, clearly explain the policies, measures or strategies that need to be put in place to achieve the desired outcomes.
