You have the task of finding two of the most suitable applicants for vacant position: Computer and Information Research Scientists. You will be involved in all stages of the recruitment, selection, induction and retention processes for Cisco, in accordance with the evidence-based best practice and professional/organizational values.

For this leg of the recruitment process, you will prepare a report that details best practice recommendations and relevant attraction and selection tools to be approved by the Cisco’s Head of HR and the Hiring Committee. Your team have already conducted systematic data collection in order to understand the job post. You will now have to discuss and design the processes involved in:

•Job Analysis – including provide a job description and job analysis (i.e., derive the ideal attributes for the position, *questions or items that will allow you to get data about the position)

• Attracting applicants – methods and process (include sample documentation – requisition forms, advertisements etc.)

•Selection – strategies used (e.g., selection devices – application forms, interview documentation, sample copies of tests or items of tests, scoring methods)

It is important to consider the Mission & Vision of the Cisco. Understand their main organizational values, and well as their codes of ethics/conduct. This requires you to research and understand Cisco as an organization. This must not be extensive, but must be considered in your recruitment process, when appropriate.  

Your brief report: This should have a format of Arial/Calibri/Times New Roman, size 12, with page numbers and must contain:

    • Executive Summary

    • Table of Contents (on a separate page)

    • Main Body

    • Appendices

    • List of References (on a separate page)

Executive Summary:

The section describes the direction you intend to pursue in the report. It should describe the main purpose of your paper, including outlining what the hiring committee will be reading in your report. You will also provide an overview of the organisation and the focal job post.

Main body:

The write-up for this section should be succinct, but adequate. This section can be divided into three subsections: job analysis, attraction, and selection. In each subsection, you will demonstrate your understanding of the evidence-based best practices that is appropriate to the context (i.e., an IT organisation looking to fill an IT-related job) by defining the relevant concepts in the report, describing the appropriate strategies, and providing support why such strategies are the most appropriate. The recommended contents are below:

  1. Job Analysis: While you are already provided with data about the job post, think about which is/are the best strategy/ies will allow you to get such data. *Assume that you already did this so you can write about it in the report.

  2. Attraction: Consider whether you will choose internal or external recruitment (or both) and which specific strategies within those two will you employ.

  3. Selection: Consider your strategies. For example, how will you be able to acquire the predictor and criterion variables you require? If you’ll do an interview, which type? Which measures will you use? For all of these, offer an adequate explanation.

Appendix

This is the bulk of your assessment. You are expected to have a significant amount of documentation in your appendix. (e.g. job descriptions, job specifications, advertisements, interview formats, samples of measures, etc.).
