Highlights
Assessment item 1 - Class Discussion
TASK
Class Discussion
Part 1: Make at least three posts to the Padlet on the home page
Part 2: Respond to at least three posts on the Padlet on the home page.
The aim of this assessment is for everyone to contribute to the learning of the group and to engage with others in the subject (peer-to-peer learning). Learning from the experiences of your peers' adds a great depth to the subject experience, as students come with a range of experience and knowledge.
What do you need to do?
Part 1: Three Posts (250 words each max)
1 post related to Part 2 of the text (Consumers as social beings), 1 post related to Part 3 of the text (Consumers as individuals) and 1 post related to Part 4 of the text (Consumer decisions and experiences)
For each post you need to include three things:
1) Provide a contemporary example that shows an aspect of consumer behaviour theory being used in practice.
2) Explain how the example illustrates the relevant area of consumer behaviour theory.
You need to address a different area of theory in each post and you must reference the sources that you use.
3) Pose a question about your example for discussion by peers.
Part 2: Responses (250 words each) For each response you are expected to
1) Identify a post of interest by one of your peers on the home page and respond to their discussion question (referencing theory)
2) Comment on the post: In your response, address the theory and its application in the example provided and consider this critically using your knowledge of the theory.
You may choose to make all your posts and responses early in the session, so you can focus on other tasks (this may require reading ahead), or you may like to stagger them through the session (many students find it can be very helpful to have a small task each week/fortnight to keep them motivated and on track). Ideally, it would be great if you post items of interest whenever you find them, the more we all contribute the more we will get out of the experience. For grading purposes, I will mark three posts and three responses as identified by you and submitted via EASTs.
Assessment item 2 - Cultural and Interpersonal Influences on CB
TASK
Analyse and evaluate the influence of cultural and interpersonal effects on the decision making behaviour of a target market. Then make recommendations about how this knowledge could improve/enhance a firms marketing strategies.
Identify a case organisation and focus on one of their product/service offerings. Write a report analysing and evaluating the cultural and interpersonal effects influencing the decision making of one target market for that offering. Based on your analysis and evaluation make recommendations for how marketers (in your firm) can apply this critical understanding to improve/enhance the firm's marketing strategies (4 Ps or 7 Ps, targeting, market segmentation).
To do this report you need to draw on the theories covered in chapters 2-4 and 11 of the text plus conduct additional research of your own. You then need to critically analyse and evaluate this information and use it to justify your recommendations.
Step 1: Choose an organisation, a specific product/ service offering and specific target market to focus on.
You Own Organisation - You can choose an organisation you work for or are familiar with and select one revenue generating product or service provided.
Alternatively you could approach the lecturer who can provide you with an example, from the banking, mobile phone or political contexts.
Step 2: Collect information to allow you to analyse and evaluate the cultural and interpersonal influences that are influencing the target market.
You will need to use a variety of theoretical, industry and data sources depending on which case study you select. Researching the market and developing an accurate customer profile is a critical part of understanding customer behaviour and the buying decision-making process.
Consider cultural and interpersonal issues that are likely to directly or indirectly influence the consumer decision-making.
