Assignment Objective The primary goal of this assignment is to improve and enhance student’s knowledge in the area of mobile and pervasive computing area including Global System for Mobile Communications networks, protocols, wireless transmission protocol, Wireless LAN, Ad-hoc network, and sensor network.

In recent years the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) network has attracted the attention of the researchers due to the huge amount of data that can be processed and also due to extensive coverage with a large amount of accuracy. Presently, 80% of the mobile market is using GSM technology in more than 212 countries covering almost 3 billion users. Form architectural aspect the GSM network comprises of many elements such as MS (Mobile Station), BTS (Base Transceiver Station), BSC (Base Station Controller), MSC (Mobile Switching Center), and of many databases including HLR (Home Location Register), VLR (Visitor Location Register) or EIR (Equipment Identity Register), etc.. With respect to the above extract, provide a detailed report on the following aspects of the GSM networks.
a) Critically analyze the GSM System Architecture with the placement of all necessary elements.
b) Critically evaluate how GSM uses FDMA/TDMA multiplexing techniques.
Task 3:
One of the emerging technology of mobile computing is Bluetooth which uses radio waves for short-range wireless communication facilitating data sharing such as files, audio, and videos over short distances between fixed and mobile devices. The Bluetooth technology operates in the license-free 2.4 GHz industrial band. The major driving force behind the use of Bluetooth in many applications is the use of non-regularity frequency band and limited and low consumption of the battery power. Furthermore, Bluetooth technology does not require any additional setup to initiate communication between communicating parties. In addition, Bluetooth empowers different manufactures and models to communicate with each other without any compatibility error using Bluetooth. With respect to the above extract, provide a detailed report on the following aspects of the Bluetooth mobile computing technology.
a) Critically evaluate the Bluetooth protocol stack accompanied by figures.
b) How the Bluetooth is using is the FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum)
c) Explain five popular Bluetooth applications along with security threats
