Heat exchanger as the name indicates it transfers heat from one fluid to another which are at differ temperatures. Heat exchangers are devices built for efficient heat transfer from one fluid to another and are widely used in engineering processes. Some examples are intercoolers, pre- heaters, boilers and condensers in power plants. The heat transfer efficiency depends on both design of heat exchanger and property of working fluid and important design parameters like the pitch ratio, tube length, and tube layer as well as baffle spacing. In this project, the heat transfer efficiency will be improved by implementing the full baffle design and analysing it through CFD flow simulation to find the
approximate heat transfer rates.
Swirling flow can be seen in many kinds of chemical equipment, such as cyclone separators and stirred vessels, and it can be considered that swirling flow dominates the performance of such equipment.
Methodology
1. Selection of heat exchanger
2. Designing of shell and tube heat exchanger
3. Modification is the key – most of the segmental baffle are cut but, in this case, there is going to be full baffle design
4. Creating 3D model of heat exchanger with full baffle design using Solidworks
5. Baffle spacing will be kept no less than 20% of the inner shell diameter.
6. Boundary condition – In scenario 1, fluid will enter the tube and shell at certain velocity. In scenario 2, the fluid will have swirl which is turbulent in nature. The swirl can be created using rotating blades.
7. Analysis –Flow simulation on 3D model in Solidworks
8. Results- Solution for various results obtained from different scenario and its comparison.
