1) An old spider sits in the middle of a web as shown in Fig. 1. At t = 0 a fly lands on the web at some vertex. The spider
has bad eyesight due to old age and it can not see the fly, but it can feel the thump of the landing, and therefore, it knows
lunch has arrived. The fly, realizing its fate, is literally scared to death, and stays motionless on the web. Because the
spider does not know where on the web the fly is, it begins a random walk. Specifically, once every second it feels how
many different strands are locally available at its current location and chooses one randomly with equal probability. How
many steps must the spider take on average in order to find the fly?
2) How does the result in (1) change as the number of radial vertices increases? (In Fig. 1, there are three radial vertices,
i.e., three layers of equidistant vertices.)
