Highlights
1. The Republic of Eindia, once known as the ‘Golden Sparrow’ for its abundance of raw materials and precious stones, is now renowned worldwide for its educational institutions par excellence across various streams. It is proud to host the world’s prominent and leading institutions in the field of technology, medicine, science and most notably, in the field of law. Interestingly, premier institutions such as Dharvard, Hoxford, and Qambridge were just the tip of the iceberg as there were many more institutions which topped the rankings of all the ‘unpaid’ ranking lists released by the relevant organisations.
2. One such institution topping the charts of the ‘best’ law school in the Republic of Eindia was the ‘Legends of Law University’ (“LOLU”) – a leading private law school situated at the banks of a river called ‘Amajhon’ in a pristine valley of Behradun, Puttrakhand, Eindia. LOLU was renowned for its top-class faculty as it aggressively scouted for young legal practitioners across the country who inhibit a deep passion for teaching and sharing experiences with budding law students.
3. Accordingly, LOLU engaged a dynamic young lawyer named Mr. Dholu Deol from Kangaluru, Eindia, to teach the first years of LOLU a course on Legal Methods. Dholu is a graduate of SLC, UK, a tier 4 law school in Eindia who came last in his batch of 420 people. Despite being the last in his batch, he is proud of his education because he chose not to follow the rat race and instead charted his own path to do what he likes.
4. Dholu is an unconventional, unorthodox educator who has different principles, ideologies, and idiosyncrasies than everyone else around him. He refuses to follow the accepted or the mandated norms of the society if he thinks that such norms restrict people’s liberty and autonomy to choose what is best for themselves. While everyone around him calls him mad, he proudly offers to explain his method of madness to everyone around him and why he does what he does!
5. When Dholu started his course with the first year batch of LOLU, he laid down a specific rule to the class that he does not believe in forcing students to attend the class because of mandatory attendance and the fear of attendance shortage. He urged students that they should attend his class only if they find them valuable and interesting and if they are genuinely willing to learn and participate in his class. He believed that students should not be forced to attend the class if the lectures are dull, boring, and unhelpful. It is not the student’s fault if the course instructor cannot create a conducive and interactive learning environment that automatically encourages students to come and actively participate in the class willingly. If that does not happen, students should not be forced to attend such classes or be penalised for not attending them as they can utilise their time in a much better way. Therefore, Dholu promised to the class that he would give attendance to everyone in the class irrespective of the students attending the classes or not.
