Guidelines for research essays

In the essay the students provide a thorough critique of an existing research work through reflective reading, by analysing an academic article related to one of the ten research topics of interest covered in the class.

Essays must not be longer than 3 pages including references, using the document template for essays available in ILIAS. Essays should be correct in English spelling, punctuation and grammar. Make sure all references are properly mentioned. All essays handed in will undergo a rigorous plagiarism check. Please do not use artificial intelligence to prepare your presentations or essays, as we also know how to detect such instances.

The following structure should be adapted for writing the essays:

· Introduction, motivation of the topic

· Presentation of the hypothesis / statement / finding to be criticised

· Evidence / arguments in favour of the counter-position

· Discussion

· Conclusion

· References
