Though Sri Lanka is considered to be located far from active plate margins in terms of earthquakes, the recent 5 small scale earthquakes that occurred in the course of past 6 months have opened the eyes of authorities to look into the matter in detail. The recent tremor was also recorded as a very minor tremor on the Ritcher Scale at the Victoria reservoir. From 29th August 2020 to 31st December 2020, there had been 5 such minor tremors reported from Gurudeniya, Rajawella, Thalathu-Oya, Haragama, and Anuragama in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The government of Sri Lanka is planning to start enlightenment campaigns to educate the public in reducing the impacts due to earthquakes. The focus group would be the public residing in the potentially risk areas. The main focus of the project is to reduce the impacts due to earthquakes specially focusing on the Central and Uva Provinces of Sri Lanka through campaigns. Assume you have been appointed as the consultant representing the government in organizing the enlightenment campaigns and assess the risks pertaining to the proposed project.
