Professional Practice: Solving Business Problems

Overview

Students are asked to find their own contemporary business problem or scenario, which they will analyse via economic frameworks and their own data. Students will prepare a video presentation as well as presentation slides.

Deliverables

  • 6.5 to 7.5 minute presentation (not under or not over) that is uploaded to a public video sharing platform such as YouTube, Vimeo, Echo, Zoom, or similar. The video can be unlisted (the public cannot find it via a search engine), but the link should be one that a marker can easily open without asking for permission. This video link should be included on the first slide of your presentation as a clickable link.
  • A 8-slide presentation (not under or over) in PowerPoint or similar that follows the structure below. Convert your presentation to a PDF before submission. Notes about the Video: You are not being marked on the production value of the video. Your talking head should appear for at least 30 seconds at the beginning of the video to verify the video’s authenticity. You may turn your camera off after 30 seconds, the decision is yours.

Notes About the Business Problem and the Data
Set

You can decide the scope for this business problem – local, national, or global. You can even solve a problem for a local business that you know, or even one on campus! You can utilise data sets that you find online.

Alternatively, you are welcome to create your own sample or proxy datasets if suitable data is not available or if you wish to model a specific scenario. For example, you might simulate customer purchase behaviour, generate hypothetical financial data for a small business, or construct a simplified version of a larger dataset to test a particular analytical method. Just ensure that the dataset you create is realistic, well-structured, and appropriate for the analysis you intend to carry out. You are not being marked on the data set that you choose. You are being marked on your data analysis.
