Case study background information – Mr. Chris Weller 

Mr. Chris Weller is 23 years old and was brought into A&E via ambulance this morning after sustaining a head injury after diving into a dam on a friend’s rural property. 

He hit a submersed old car body on the bottom of the dam and sustained a large laceration to his right shoulder and the front of his upper arm. 

His friends reported he appeared nonresponsive for a few minutes as they dragged him from the water. They also reported to the paramedics that he bled a lot before they could put pressure on his R) Shoulder wound he quickly became alert and orientated before paramedics arrived. 

Chris has been admitted to your ward for neurological and post op observation overnight, IV antibiotics and wound care. He has just returned from theatre after a surgical flap repair to his R) shoulder. Chris is usually well, works as a delivery driver, single and lives with friends. He has a known allergy to Penicillin. He does not wear glasses, grew up in Adelaide and speaks English.
