Mr. Khan is a 78-year-old patient year old man of South Asian heritage, who has sustained a Myocardial Infarction (MI). His wife found him in the early hours of this morning in a confused and agitated state. He complained of central chest pain that was crushing in nature that radiated into his neck, arm and jaw.

He has now been admitted into hospital and has deteriorated further; he is unconscious requiring end of life care. Mr Khan’s wife is very upset and asks you why this has happened?  She said that a few years ago her husband was told to change his diet and lose weight, but he didn’t do this.  She said that she is worried that she might also become unwell as she has been told to do the same, but hasn’t listened.  However, now she is worried that her children and grandchildren might have to go through this with her as well as her husband and she is worried about this she asks you what she should do.

Whilst performing personal care for Mr Khan You over hear a discussion amongst nurses and medical staff about whether Mr Khan should be resuscitated or not. This conversation takes place on the Drs Ward round at the nurse’s station and can be over heard by visitors.
